Intro to Guitar
Intro to Guitar is a four week group course that teaches the care and maintenance of the guitar, tuning, basic chords and scales, and gets you playing your first song. Classes are 60 minutes long and meet once a week.
Class 1 - tuning, care of guitar, names of strings, your first 3 chords
Class 2 - strumming, counting, and introduction to the chord progression
Class 3 - single notes, first scale and intro to lead guitar
Class 4 - putting it all together - chord and melody jam
Cost of the course is $60. Rental guitars are available.
Intro to Garage Band
Intro to Garage Band is a four week group course that teaches the basics of the software Garage Band. Learn to create and use loops, midi instruments, and record your own songs. Classes are 60 minutes long and meet once a week.
Class 1 - Navigate the Garage Band interface - learn what all those buttons do. The difference between “real” and "software" instruments, tool tips, and making new tracks.
Class 2 - Editing - cutting and pasting, the basic arrangement
Class 3 - plugins, eq, panning, and mixing
Class 4 - putting it all together - creating your first song
Cost of the course is $60.
Intro to Studio Recording with John Roper
Intro to Studio Recording is an eight session group course that teaches the basics of working in the studio. Learn about microphones, mixers, midi, analog and digital audio, and how to record your own songs. Classes are 90 minutes long and meet once a week.
Class 1 - Capturing audio - microphones, lines, and sampling.
Class 2 - Intro to the mixer - the channel strip
Class 3 - Gain stages, routing, eq, panning, and recording
Class 4 - Recording different sources, practical techniques
Class 5 - Editing. Intro to concepts used for song production.
Class 6 - Computer skills required for the studio. backing up, keeping versions, unused takes, and universal short-keys.
Class 7 - Effects and bussing. How to use reverb, delay, eq, and compression.
Class 8 - putting it all together - the final mix. Mixing, mastering, sequencing, and the Red Book Master.
